- Can V5 be on a computer with V4?
- How can I convert from IPSentry version 4 to 5?
1. I'm getting failures when running IPSentry as a service. Is there anything I can do?
When you select to run IPSentry as a service, you may experience various failures connecting to remote computers if you configure the service to run under the Local System account.
Local System account is an account which is secured to Local resources and does not allow for connection/logon to remote computers.
The recommended account under which IPSentry should run as a service is the exact same account under which you configure and test your monitor settings.
This account must have local administrator rights as well as "Logon as Service" rights.
Ideally, a member of the Domain Admin group will allow for simplified configuration with regards to logon credentials for monitoring items such as Event Logs, Disk Space, Performance Data, and NT Services.
Regardless of the group membership however, you should always logon, configure, and test your configuration under the security credentials you specify for the IPSentry Service.
2. I have logical disks missing in the performance counter. What is wrong?

In Windows NT 4.0 all disk counters for Performance Monitor were turned off by default. In Windows 2000 the Physical Disk object is turned on by default and the Logial Disk object is turned off by default.
To obtain performance counter data for logical drives or storage volumes, you must type diskperf -yv at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
This causes the disk performance statistics driver used for collecting disk performance data to report data for logical drives or storage volumes. By default, the operating system uses the diskperf -yd command to obtain physical drive data.
3. Can V5 be on a computer with V4?
No. Version 5 and Version 4 can not co-exist on the same computer.
Due to the sharing of some system libraries and structural modification, this side-by-side running of the application is not possible.
4. How can I convert from IPSentry version 4 to 5?
When installing IPSentry V5 on a machine other than the computer on which IPSentry V4 is installed, the installer will not have access to the previous configuration settings in order to automatically convert to V5 format.
The following steps will be required to import your existing configuration from version 4.7
- On the system running version 4, go into Edit/Options and select to EXPORT SETTINGS.
- Copy the .IPE file that you created to the system running version 5.
- From the command prompt, locate the IPSentry application installation directory.
e.g. C:\Program Files\RGE INC\IPSentryV5\
- Execute the V4toV5.exe
- In the "Import From" area, insure that "Exported .IPE File" is selected.
- Click on the "Browse" button and locate the .IPE file you just exported.
- Click the "START" button.
Please note that some add-in components which utilized external configuration files (many prior to 4.7) will have a file reference in the add-in ARGS field. You will need to locate the files that are referenced by these add-ins and copy them over from the V4 machine.
It is recommended that you go into the add-in configuration for these add-in components and ensure that the configuration properties are correct. When you save the settings, the external file will no longer be required.
