IPSentry - What's New!
IPSentry 5.0 boasts many new exciting features that make network computer monitoring and surveillance to an extremely easy task.
Below is a list (excluding the minutia) of notable feature enhancements to the IPSentry Network Monitoring Suite from Version 4 to Version 5. The updates list is quite extensive so you may want to search this page for something of interest.

- New HTML Auto Output format re-designed.
This new design provides a summary page for at-a-glance visualizing of device state with links to device details.
- Per Device Output Selection
You can now remove selected devices from appearing in the device statistics detail.
- Multiple output reports - device selectable.
You can now specify different output reports on a per-device basis allowing you to group devices within specific reports.
- Added Forced Full or Live report selection.
You can select to view the standard report set or a complete list of device status report from the active display panel.
- Active display console visual display configuration.
You can now change the active display console colors and fonts to better suite your own preferences.
- Redesign of device editor listing.
A the machines/devices listing has been redesigned in an explore style format allowing you to better visualize the list of devices, dependency hierarchy, and details associated with each device.
- Direct access name change.
Added direct access to change device name without access the device editor.
- More intuitive menu structure and active display toolbar.
The menu structure from the active display console has been modified for a more intuitive look and feel.
- Added option to utilize the alert/notification configuration settings from any entry.
Within each device, you now have the option to set the alert and notification configurations to utilize the configuration from any other entry.
- Added Group/Template type entries.
We have added the option to insert "Non-Action" type entries used to store configuration settings and group devices. These entries perform no task other than to provide organizational functionality.
- Added Multiple service monitoring.
The NT Service Monitoring capabilities have been expanded to allow selection of multiple services to be monitored during a single connection. This can dramatically increase performance when monitoring multiple services on a single machine.
- Added Reference Check entries.
The new Reference check allows you to configure an entry to evaluate the status of other entries and trigger alerts based on the configured importance of the status. You define an importance value (weight) to each device being referenced, and the maximum weight allowed.
- Added global default Ping retry count to system configuration
We have moved the internal retry count to the system options area allowing you to control the internal ping retry count.
- Added Packet Size for PING tests.
You can now specify the packet size for ICMP-Ping tests.
- Added 'Web Page" monitor port type.
Using the Web Page monitor allows you to enter the URL of a web page to monitor and the Auto-Configure option will parse the request appropriately for the Data to Send & Data To Recv fields.
- Added "Critical Poll Frequency"
You can no adjust the polling frequency of a device based on it's last known state. There is now a Normal and Critical poll frequency setting.
- Added "NOTES" for each device.
You can now enter extended notes for each device. This can contain contact persons, instructions, and any other notations that are meaningful to you.
- More granular Down Time schedule times.
The schedule editor is no longer limited to 15 minute intervals. You now specify the time frames explicitly during days of week that monitoring will take place. (e.g. 00:01-02:43)
- Schedule Referencing
You can now set the schedule to reference the schedule of any other device allowing single change to propagate to referencing items.
- Added Recovery Count for "Success Alerts".
The new Recovery Count option allows you to specify how many successful attempts must occur before a failed device is deemed 'Recovered' thus triggering the recovery alerts. This is defined on a per-alert basis allowing you be alerted earlier or later depending on the alerting mechanism.
- Redesigned keyword capabilities.
We have changed and added many new keywords to help build template based messages that can better reflect the results and the configuration of monitored devices.
- Added Graphing and Charting capabilities.
We have added the IPSentry Graphing Tool allowing you to design and generate graphs and charts for devices. The samples are determined based on the type of monitoring being performed as well as the Success/Failure rates.
- Added database for result / detail statistics.
The Graphing tool utilizes a database to store detailed monitoring statistics.
- Added IPSentry Dash Remote Client and Dash Server
The DASH Client allows for more real-time remote monitoring of the device state as well as Suspend/Resume/Notation of device entries from a remote location. The Dash client also provides remote pop-up alerting for state change of devices.
The Server/Client requests and responses utilize a shared secret that is never transmitted for authentication.
- Moved configuration data from the registry to XML repository.
By moving the data to a file based repository, backup of your configuration is accomplished by simply backup of the IPSentry installation folder.
- Automated Data Conversion
During installation of IPSentry v5 (over V4), your data will be migrated to the V5 data repository.
- Added a new Backup/Restore function.
The new backup file is just a .ZIP structured file containing the IPSentry data store. This can be recovered using the recover option or any ZIP compatible software.

This add-in provides you with the ability to script TCP send/receive requirements over a network as well as perform a network access notification that requires Telnet or other TCP connection. Ideal for TCP/IP based hardware that normally requires manual 'telnet' operations.
- Pop3 Mail Queue Monitor
This new add-in allows checking of a POP3 mail box for messages containing specified text to trigger an alert as well as triggering alerts if a message has been in the queue for a defined length of time.
